Supplement 35B: Flams Added to Hand-to-Hand and Category 4 Sticking Phrases | Part 3 of 4

These exercises continue flam application on hand-to-hand and Category 4 sticking, now in 4/4 and 12/8. Watch for sticking mistakes and correct them as you go — write the sticking in if it helps. Stay relaxed and execute the flam evenly with each hand; the accent’s direction tells you whether it’s a Moeller or wrist accent. Once the accents and sticking feel secure, voice the flam’s principal note on the toms, supporting any cymbal voicing with the bass drum, and keep the unaccented notes low and close to the head so the accented notes read as the rhythmic melody.
