Here we orchestrate a 4-note group with the fourth note landing in the bass drum, applied across the same note-value sequence — quarter notes down to 32nd notes and back, triplet included. The goal is control over both the shifting note values and the hand-and-foot coordination, since the bass drum note now falls in a new position within the group. Sticking is optional, and staying aware of where the group’s first note lands keeps you from losing the downbeat. The triplet value is especially challenging here because of the cross-rhythmic effect it creates against the group.
