Supplement 17B & 17C: Category 2 Stickings In 4/4 And 12/8 With Ostinatos | Part 2 of 4

Category 2 sticking requires different preparation for some accents — for example, a wrist accent motion may be needed when the previous accent was played with the same hand; any wrist accent shown in parentheses indicates the motion to use on the repeat. Once the phrases are comfortable on a pad or snare, take them to the drum set, support cymbal accents with the bass drum, and continue 4-part counting throughout (Supplement 17B). From there, once the hands are functioning in a disciplined way, add the feet: apply the 4/4 foot ostinatos in Supplement 17C, then the 12/8 foot ostinatos in Supplement 17D to both the hand-to-hand and Category 2 phrases — keeping all limbs moving together, whether dependently or independently, is always the goal.
