Supplement 45A: 3-Note Grouping in 3/4 (Variation #10) | Part 1 of 3
This variation places the bass drum in the second position of the 3-note group, again sequenced from quarter notes to 32nd notes and back. If the full sequence is too much at once, try separating the duple groups from the triplet groups, practicing one note-value rate at a time, or applying any single rate as a fill idea. It’s also worth trying the exercise with feet swapped — using the hi-hat foot for what the bass drum foot usually plays — since the hi-hat has mostly served as a timekeeper up to this point and is worth exploring in other roles.
