Supplement 28C: 2-Bar Hand To Hand And Category 3 Stickings In 3/4 And 12/8 With An Ostinato | Part 3 of 3
Once the phrases above feel comfortable, begin adding ostinatos to each exercise — choose the one you can control best, though the eventual goal is to practice all of the ostinatos with each phrase (Supplement 28C). From there, these hand-and-foot examples continue developing foot control using the motions covered throughout this course, now with the hands added: the hands work independently of the bass drum motion, and the pattern in the lead hand establishes the tempo and feel. Keep a record of your progress to measure control and speed, using a variety of tempos — a metronome is strongly suggested, and remember that the lead hand stays in control of time and feel throughout (Supplement 28D).
