Supplement 16C: Ostinatos | Part 2 of 4
Once the hands are functioning in a disciplined way, add the feet with ostinato patterns. This develops several things at once: two-, three- and four-way coordination; the maintenance of proper balance; sound, touch and dynamics; and the use of groupings, sticking and accents to build rhythmic and melodic phrases. Apply the 4/4 foot ostinatos in Supplement 16C to the hand patterns from 16A/16B. Balance and good coordination — not speed — are the goal; stay aware of foot motion, technique, and using the right foot position for the sound and dynamic you want.
