This rudiment has both hands playing the same motion on either side of the beat, making it symmetrical — the tap/upstroke/accent motion is one of the harder ones to master but is highly applicable once learned. A left-hand version always follows a right-hand version and vice versa. Separating the hands to isolate the motion one side at a time is a useful way to work on execution before bringing them back together.
