Category 2 sticking creates even groupings and Category 3 creates odd ones — combined, they produce accent sequences outlining groups of 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, and 12. Once you can play the phrases cleanly, start voicing them on the kit, supporting cymbal voicing with the bass drum.

From there, add one or more foot ostinatos to the same phrases. Building full independence between hands and feet here pays off broadly, since many of these ostinatos apply directly across musical styles.
