Supplement 34C: Groove Control and Bass Drum Development | Part 1 of 4

This etude carries over from the previous lesson, now played with two hands on the hi-hat, which changes the feel and may call for a tempo adjustment since two hands can move faster than one. Phrase the hi-hat one of three ways: no accents, an accent on the 8th-note starting on the beat (right hand typically leading), or an accent on the beat itself (right hand again leading). Pay close attention to the bass drum’s motion and execution, and track your progress with a metronome setting you revisit daily.
