Meta-sticking means deciding for yourself which hand takes each accent in a phrase — pick a pattern, choose your sticking, set a tempo and style, then decide how to voice it as a groove or fill. The number of accents in a phrase determines how many sticking options you have (a 5-accent phrase alone gives you eight different pairings), so pick one or two per phrase to start. From there you can also flam the accents, diddle the unaccented notes, or vary how the bass drum interacts — following the right hand, setting up the backbeat, or running independently.
