Supplement 19F: Bass Drum Technique (2-Stroke Ankle-Down Focus) | Part 4 of 4
Continue developing proper motion in the foot exercises. Choose a tempo fast enough to use the ankle rotation motion followed by a downstroke, and always aim to play off the bass drum head rather than into it, for the best tone and control (Supplement 19F). A good starting tempo for the bass drum and hi-hat exercises is quarter note = 70 bpm — fast enough to actually use the ankle rotation motion.
