Supplement 58B: Two-beat Artificial Values: Quintuplet & Septuplet Mixed With Normal Note Values | Part 2 of 2

Spreading an odd-numbered group across two full beats is harder than fitting it into one, since there’s no obvious subdivision to fall back on — feel matters more here than counting. A useful trick is mentally breaking a five-note group into something like 2+3 or 3+2, or better, letting the orchestration or sticking itself guide the subdivision. Don’t force the phrasing to be metronomically exact — the goal is a relaxed group that doesn’t sound rushed or dragged against the surrounding 3s, 4s and 6s.
