Biography
Karma Auger's earliest memories are of his father, legendary jazz keyboardist Brian Auger, playing electric piano at their house in London. At age two, Karma was already threading the tape on his father's reel and plugging in headphones to listen to dad's new masters. At age three he began playing piano, which he still plays today. However, it would take seventeen more years for Karma to discover his true musical passion: drumming.
The following year, Karma began touring, engineering, and producing tracks for his father, as well as other world class artists such as Eric Burdon (The Animals), Robby Krieger (The Doors), and Billy Cobham to name a few.
Karma possesses insights into the music business far beyond his years, a precious gift that can only be credited to his father. Karma joined his father's band, Brian Auger's Oblivion Express, in 1995 when the previous drummer quit two days before a European tour. At the time, Karma was working as a drum technician for Oblivion Express and, as a result, he was the only person who knew all the material.
Of his experience with the band, Karma says, "My father has given me a priceless education and I am lucky enough to work with him today."
In July 2007, while gigging with Larry Coryell, Karma and Julian Coryell were introduced minutes before walking out onstage together. That evening, a powerful connection was created between the two. Following the performance, the Karma and Julian spoke about doing something together and Nick Sample's name was brought up. In early August, all three got together for the first time and wrote an album in four hours. After a day of getting sounds, they went to Julian's studio in Venice and spent three days cutting the album. No headphones were used in the making of the record—it was just three guys in a room playing together. CAST! Coryell Auger Sample Trio was born.
