Biography
Louis Appel is a native of Long Island, New York. His dream was always to become a professional drummer, and Louie’s dreams have come true in a big way. He is known for his ability to excel in many genres including gospel, bluegrass, rock & roll, and pop. Louie’s peers consider him admirably easy to work with.
Louie played with American folk singer John Eddie from 1994 to 2000. Then he began performing with Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes. Louie Appel joined the band playing feel-good music to audiences around the world. Louie said, “The gig’s a lot of fun. Plus these guys are great.” They toured Europe, opening for Bon Jovi for two years, and even opened for Bruce Springsteen. During breaks form Southside Johnny, Louie played with The Demolition String Band out of Hoboken, New Jersey. DSB is considered a “neo-hilbilly/twang” group.
In 2006, Louie toured with Tom Verlaine (former Television frontman). The Los Angeles Times acclaimed his playing as “thunderous yet agile,” and The New York Times said that he was “unshowy and robust.”
Throughout his career, Louie performed with the following artists: Ronnie Spector, G.E. Smith, Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, John Waite, John Eddie, ‘NSync, Enya, Phoebe Snow, Tom Verlaine, Debbie Gibson, Bruce Springsteen, John Poppo, Frankie Knuckles, Lattanzi, Jimmy Vivino, Al Kooper, BAC, Mazarin, Greg Kihn, Robert Gordon, Peter Frampton, Leslie West, Robyn, Orlanda Drapper, Paxton, Kerry Kearney, Michelle Penn, Demolition String Band, Gypsy Back Door, Shannon, Greg Garing, Joe Lynn Turner, and Mark Seliger.
