When he began drumming, Travis Smith was reluctant to give up hanging out with his friends and riding his bike to go to lessons. Nonetheless, he made the sacrifice and went to practice. Travis Smith still practices before every performance with thrash band Trivium. Travis Smith is best known for his detailed focus and speedy double kicking—Travis’s double bass skills are unmatched. Travis Smith started working with a double pedal when he was fourteen, under the tutelage of his teacher, Joey Everline.

Trivium’s debut album, Ember to Inferno, was well-received by critics and fans and helped the band sign a deal with Roadrunner Records.  Trivium’s second album, Ascendacy was released in 2006 and solidified Trivium as a mains tage act. The following year, they co-headlined the U.K.’s Download Festival with Korn and Metallica—a particularly huge honor for Travis, who learned to play drums by listening to Metallica, along with Megadeth, Pantera, Alice in Chains, and Soundgarden. Trivium returned to the U.S. for the Sounds of The Underground tour with As I Lay Dying, GWAR, Cannibal Corpse, and Terror.

Trivium released their third album, Crusade, in 2006.
