Biography

Maxwell Sachel Weinberg, a native of New Jersey, is best known as the drummer in Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band and the leader of the house band on Late Night with Conan OíBrien.

In 1974, Max Weinberg responded to a newspaper ad seeking a drummer with the qualifier, 'no junior Ginger Bakers.' Max Weinberg's consistent groove, and proclivity to avoid lengthy drum solos, landed him a job playing in Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band. Max Weinberg performed with the powerful E Street Band for fifteen years until Springsteen dissolved the band in 1989.

While playingwith the E Street Band, Max Weinberg wrote a critically acclaimed book on rock drumming, The Big Beat: Conversations with Rock's Greatest Drummers. The book featured Max Weinberg's interviews with rock drummers and a companion CD.

After the E Street Band dismantled, Max Weinberg completed his bachelorís degree at Seton Hall University. Max Weinberg then attended the Cardozo School of Law, but withdrew before the end of the first year.

In 1993, The Max Weinberg 7 helped Conan O'Brien debut his new late night television program. Max Weinberg has led the house band since then. Occasionally, Max Weinberg performs in sketches on the show, usually as a deranged character.

When Springsteen brought the E Street Band back together in 1995 and in 1999, Max Weinberg was on board. Max Weinberg took leaves of absence from Late Night to joined Bruce on tour. Max Weinberg also joined the band for tours again in 2007 and 2008.

Max Weinberg has also performed with Johnnie Johnson, Meatloaf, and 10,000 Maniacs. The Max Weinberg 7 released a self-titled album in 2000.
