Lewis Nash was born on December 30, 1958, in Phoenix, Arizona. Lewis Nash's interests in music began early in life and, by the age of ten, he was learning the drums. Inspired by his high school band teacher to pursue jazz, age eighteen saw young Lewis Nash performing in local jazz bands. Lewis Nash's natural talent quickly gained him notoriety and, in no time at all, he was performing with artists like Sonny Stitt and Art Pepper.

In 1981, when Lewis Nash was just twenty-two years old, he was called upon by the great Betty Carter to move to New York City and join her band. This was the career-making opportunity Lewis Nash had been looking for as he toured the world with Betty Carter's band for almost four years. By the time he was finished playing with Betty Carter, Lewis Nash had become a musician of significant renown.

World famous bassist Ron Carter invited Lewis Nash to play with him in 1984. Lewis Nash toured a great deal with Ron Carter and recorded multiple albums. In the course of the following years, Lewis Nash went on to tour and laid down tracks in the studio with artists such as Branford Marsalis, the Don Pullen/George Adams quartet, Clark Terry, Stan Getz, and Milt Jackson. Then, from 1999 to 2000, Lewis Nash toured and recorded with the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra.

Today, Lewis Nash continues to play and record with a wide variety of artists. Lewis Nash has been featured in over 300 recordings. In addition to playing, Lewis has recently been involved with teaching and is highly sought for his lectures and workshops.
