Biography

José Antonio Pasillas II did not begin drumming until he was ten. José Pasillas' natural musical talent was obvious—he required no lessons to get started. Air drumming while listening to famous drummers like Steward Copeland, Tim Alexander, and Chad Sexton, José taught himself technique. José Pasillas and his childhood friends, Brandon Boyd, Mike Einziger, and Dirk Lance, formed Incubus while they were still in high school.

Incubus started out covering bands like Metallica and Megadeth for fun. They did not envision a destiny too serious for themselves—that is, until they started getting good. Incubus first gigged at parties and did not begin writing their own music until a few years later. After amassing a measure of local notoriety, Incubus played the club circuit on Sunset Strip in Hollywood, California.

José Pasillas and Incubus released their first album, Fungus Amongus, in 1995.  The band had already been together for five years.  Showcasing an impressive blend of rock, hip hop, jazz, and metal, Incubus gained tremendous popularity and began touring with acts like Korn, Sugar Ray, and 311.

Today, José Pasillas II is still a faithful member of Incubus. He and the band continue to produce music and remain active philanthropists, all while touring the globe to promote their revolutionary “melting pot” rock music.
