Biography

In his hometown of Haverhill, Massachusetts, Joe Yuele Sr. introduced his young son to the jazz genius Django Reinhardt. Inspired at this young age, Joe Jr. started playing drums when he was fourteen. Joe Yuele spent a year learning his way around a drum kit before joining his first band, the Vee Jays. Joe Yuele left the comforts of home when he was sixteen and moved to California, hoping for a big break. Joe Yuele's big break didn’t happen right away, and Joe was hungry and homeless during his first year in California.

Determined, Joe Yuele created his own band that built experience playing at topless clubs in Los Angeles. In 1974, things started picking when Joe Yuele joined The Juke Rhythm Band, a Chicago-style blues arrangement. The Juke Rhythm Band played supporting roles behind many musicians, including Albert Collins, Lowell Fulson, Big Joe Turner, George “Harmonica” Smith, and Big Mama Thornton. This experience was an education for Joe Yuele, who recalled, “It was like a semester at the College of Blues Knowledge!”

JoeJoe Yuele's really big break finally came in 1985 when he started touring around the world with John Mayall. Mayall’s band, the Bluesbreakers, had been around since the 1960s; at one time, the band included Eric Clapton. In his twenty-one years with Mayall, Joe recorded more than fifteen albums. Occasionally, Joe even writes music for the band.
