Biography

 
 
Javier Barrera was immersed into music by his family as a child in Mexico City. Javier Barrera and his three brothers studied composition, orchestration, and classical and jazz piano under Professor Ignacio Gutierrez Campoy and pianist Walter Norris. Javier Barrera also studied under Armando Zerguera at Olin Yolistli. Javier and his brothers created their own band, B4, which made significant contributions to the Mexico City jazz scene.

However, Javier Barrera's circle of influence is not limited to Mexico City; he is a regular on the international jazz and pop music scene. Javier Barrera served as Alejandra Guzman's drummer and musical director for more than seven years; his work included production of Guzman's live CD and DVD. Javier Barrera also worked with vocalist Emmanuel as drummer, musical director, arranger, and live producer. Javier Barrera's musical director credits also include Alessandra, Miguel Inzunsa, Ragazzi, La Quinta Estacion and for the television program, "Todo Se Vale."

Javier Barrera has also served as the drummer behind acts like Yequina Pavon, Kabah, Denisse De Kalaf, Eduardo Capetillo, Ernesto Dalesio, Osmany Paredes, 40 Grados, Joao Enrique, Willi Guiterrez, Jarocho, Belinda, MartÌn Rica, Reily, Neife PeÒa, and La Quinta Estacion. He has also worked with international musicians such as Al Di Miola, Gregg Bissonette, Marco Minnemann, Denis Chambers, Pat Martino, Makoto Ozone, Diego Urcola, James Jenus, Clarence Penn, Johnny Rabb, Derico Watson, Zoro, and Bobby Jarzomberk.
