Basic Background Info
Greg David Upchurch was born on December 1, 1971, in Houma, Louisiana, and raised in Oklahoma. Greg Upchurch is currently the drummer for 3 Doors Down.
Greg Upchurch's first musical break came when he performed with Eleven on their album Avantgardedog. Greg Upchurch's work with Eleven eventually led to an opportunity to work with Chris Cornell (Soundgarden, Audioslave) on Chris' solo album and the subsequent tour.
Later, Greg Upchurch hooked up with Puddle of Mudd and recorded with them on their major record label debut, Control. Several singles from the album did very well on the Billboard charts. Puddle of Mudd went on tour with Godsmack before joining the Family Values Tour in 2001. As a result, Greg Upchurch got to tour with Stone Temple Pilots, Linkin Park, and Staind. Puddle of Mudd returned to the studio and recorded Life on Display. Life on Display did not do anywhere near as well as the first album.
Greg Upchurch left Puddle of Mudd in 2005 to join 3 Doors Down. Although he has only recorded one album with the band (2008ís 3 Doors Down), Greg and 3 Doors Down have been on tour nonstop since he joined.
So far, Greg Upchurch's experience with 3DD has been marked by cooperation. He offers this anecdote: 'Chris was trying to learn another song and stumbled upon the riff for this song. Brad was like, "Hold on, Iíve got something for that." Then someone else would join in. The whole thing happened quickly, and it turned out to be such an inspiring song. This has been the most collaborative experience I've ever been involved in. And the most satisfying.'
