Biography

American drummer Gabe Serbian currently plays in The Locust with Bobby Bray (guitar), Joey Karam (keyboards), and Justin Pearson (vocals, bass). The controversial San Diego based band is trying, according to Pearson, “to change the way people look at music, or maybe just destroy it in general. Things are so normal, safe, 4/4 timing, blah. Sometimes it makes me want to throw up.”

In an interview with Modern Drummer, the original drummer for Slayer, Dave Lombardo gave much kudos to The Locust. “I get goose bumps when I think of them. I remember them on stage, every night, making their noise—a perfect noise. It’s music on another level. And their drummer, Gabe Serbian, is phenomenal… Gabe Serbian…play[s] four-piece drum sets, and I’m impressed to hear how many sounds [he] can get out of a small kit.”

Prior to joining The Locust, Gabe Serbian performed with Cattle Decapitation. The first full-length album, Human Jerky, featured Gabe on guitar, Travis Ryan on vocals, and Dave Astor on drums. The band was known for their outrageous album art, including arrangements of cattle carcasses and a cow excreting human remains. Their albums were regularly banned by government regulators. Gabe Serbian left Cattle Decapitation in 2000 to pursue drumming with The Locust.
