Biography

Left-handed drummer Eric Kalb plays to make people dance. He says, “If I look out into a room and see everybody getting’ down, I know I’m doing my job right.”

During his time playing anything that grooves, Eric Kalb performed with John Scofield, George Porter Jr., Melvin Sparks, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, The Greyboy Allstars, and John Medeski. Eric Kalb's real passion, however, is Deep Banana Blackout. Their sound is an unmatched hybrid of rock, funk, soul, jazz, Latin, and a little psychedelic. Nonetheless, they are often considered a jam band by their devoted fans, due to their demanding touring schedule and penchant for improvisation during shows.

Deep Banana Blackout has recorded several albums, including Live in the Thousand Islands, Rowdy Duty, and Feel the Peel. They even toured with the Allman Brothers and Maceo Parker.

Eric lives in Brooklyn, New York, and regularly records on the New York studio scene. He recently worked on the soundtracks for the films American Gangster and Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story.
