Biography

A native of Los Angeles, Dawn Richardson began playing drums as a young teenager. During high school, she played in any group available, including rock bands, marching bands, concert bands, orchestra, and percussion ensembles. Dawn Richardson earned her bachelor's degree in percussion from California State University, Los Angeles. Additionally, she studied under Raynor Carroll, the principle percussionist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, as well as Steve Houghton, Greg Goodall, and Jin Vessiny.

Dawn Richardson performed with 4 Non Blondes during the height of their popularity. Dawn Richardson received gold and platinum awards for record sales with the band and toured the country, opening for bands like Aerosmith, Neil Young, Pearl Jam, and Prince.

After relocating to San Francisco, Dawn Richardson studied composition and has since composed soundtracks for several short independent films. In 2005, Dawn Richardson created her own group, 2Toggle, which combines Dawn's appreciation for drumming and percussion with the visual artistry of Lori Nunokawa.

Dawn Richardson also performed with cover bands TaB and Perps during 2005, but both bands have since gone on hiatus. The Perps are an instrumental power trio who performed theme songs from police and detective shows of the 1970s with jazz sensibility and rock energy. TaB, on the other hand, covered the funky dance music of the 1970s.

In addition to her demanding career as a performer, Dawn Richardson is an educator. She wrote three drum method books and often contributes to DRUM! and EDGE Magazines. Dawn Richardson also teachesóshe loves helping her students learn while simultaneously learning from her students.

Dawn Richardson has also performed with Erika Luckett, Lillix, Penelope Houston, Angel Corpus Christie, The Loud Family, Go Go Market, Blame Sally, Kindness, Joe Gore, The Matinis, and Vicki Randle.

Dawn Richardson's latest performance group is an all-women rock outfit called Dolorata.
