1.1 What is Drum Channel?
Drum Channel is a website dedicated to making music social again by bringing music lovers together with each other and the musicians they admire. We want you to be able share the music you crave with the world you live in. At the same time, we're providing you with some of the finest exclusive music entertainment around. And if you're a musician (or would like to be), we even have classes taught by world famous artists to help you hone your skills.

Drum Channel really is for anyone who loves music. Whether you're a devoted fan, a seasoned professional musician, or you just dig hearing new stuff, Drum Channel is your music community.

1.2 Where is Drum Channel located?
Drum Channel is located in Oxnard, California. Sometimes, we can smell the strawberries growing (which is better than the scent of manure.)

1.3 Can I be a Prospace user on Drum Channel?
Our rigorous selection process is what makes the Prospace account so tantalizingly exclusive. So, even though you know you're a pro, your fans know you're a pro, your endorsers know you're a pro, and we know you're a pro, we still need to get this application from you.

Here is what you do:
-Please fill out the required fields below.
-Also, please include a list of your endorsements and any other information that attests to your pro-status in the comment box.
-You'll hear back from us within 30 days. Just give us a little time to review your info. Things are pretty crazy around here at the moment, and we really appreciate your patience.

1.4 Who works at DC?
Drum Channel employs a number of people, including production staff, editors, web developers, graphic designers, kitten herders, tech people, writers and we of course have our own accounting and HR departments. Interested in joining us?

2. Tech Questions

2.1 The site looks all messed up to me, what can I do?
Quick! Dump your cache and your cookies and no one gets hurt!

Well, now that we''ve got that out of our system:
The Drum Channel site works in IE6 and up, Firefox 2 and up, Google Chrome, and Safari 3.0 and up. We recommend using the newest browsers for your best experience: IE7, Firefox 3, and Safari. We''re not yet sure how the site will function in IE8 beta, we''ll be sure to let you know.
If you''re using early versions of IE, (pre 6.0) things could definitely look a little wonky.
If you have any problems viewing the site, we highly recommend using Firefox.
*Note: Currently, Safari users cannot do bold, italic or underline text, cannot insert images, links or emoticons, and can''t do anything using HTML (meaning line breaks and hard returns included.) We''ll update here when this is working!
Google Chrome
Mozilla Firefox
Apple Safari

2.2 How do I login?
Enter your username and password in the boxes at the upper right hand corner of any page, right underneath where it says "NO LOGIN? SIGN UP!"

2.3 I forgot my password, what should I do?
Go to the help page (top right, orange circle with a question mark) and enter the email address you used to sign up in the password problems box. A new password will be emailed to you.

2.4 My password isn''t working, what should I do?
Make sure your cookies are enabled in your browser. Also, passwords are case sensitive, so make sure you''re entering it exactly as you set it up If it's still not working, go to the help page (top right, orange circle with a question mark) and enter the email address you used to sign up in the password problems box. A new password will be emailed to you.

2.5 The site keeps making me log in, is that normal?
If you log into Drum Channel on another computer, it will log out any other machines or web browsers that you were previously logged into. If you keep getting logged out during the same session, it might mean someone got a hold of your password. Try changing your password on your preferences page and see if this stops the problem.

2.6 I have a bug to report, what should I do?
Click the "Report a Bug" button in the top right of the screen. Fill it out with the page you''re on and description of the bug. We''d appreciate steps to reproduce the bug. Also, a screenshot would be great, just make sure it''s in jpg or png or gif format.

2.7 My password was emailed to me! What''s going on!?
Well, the only way your password will be emailed to you is if you request it. On the help page, you can enter your email address (the one that you used to sign up) and click "Recover Password" This is the only way your password will be sent out, and it will only be sent to the email address on your account. You will need to use the new password specified in the email to log into the site.

2.8 I''m having a problem, who can I contact?
You''re in the right place. Chances are, your problem may have occurred before. Read through this FAQ, and if you don''t find the answer, visit the help page and submit a help request, detailing what''s going on. Be sure to include as much information as possible regarding the problem you''re having (browser, OS, etc).

2.9 Do you offer any RSS feeds?
Yes! Click on our Technology and RSS page for more info.

2.10 Do you offer any tools for developers? I really want to make one of those awesome new Apple widgets!!
Again, please visit our Technology and RSS page for details about our API and developer tools. If you don''t see anything, check back soon!

2.11 When I click on the radio/metronome/report a bug nothing seems to happen. What gives, Drum Channel?
The most likely reason you''re experiencing this problem is because you have your browser set to block pop-ups. You know how when you visit some sites they''ll shove a ton of pop-up advertisements in your face? Yeah, we promise never to do that. So you can allow pop-ups from Drum Channel and still surf with safety and confidence.
Generally, your browser will inform you at top of the page when it is actively stopping a pop-up. Simply tell it to allow pop-ups from this site, and you''ll be good to go. You can also enable all pop-ups from all sites in your browser''s Tools menu.

3. Payment Questions

3.1 Can I give Drum Channel to my uncle/sister/cousin/nephew as a gift?
You can! Just visit the Drum Channel Store and follow the instructions.

3.2 How do I change my payment information?
Click on the "My DC" in the upper right hand corner of the screen. Select "Settings" and then "Billing Settings" Or I could be nice and give you a link to it.

3.3 I''m having a problem, who can I contact?
You''re in the right place. Chances are, your problem may have occurred before. Read through this FAQ, and if you don''t find the answer, visit the help page and submit a help request, detailing what's going on. Be sure to include as much information as possible regarding the problem you're having (browser, OS, etc). We'll get back to you right away to solve your problem! Unless you mean you're having a problem finding a bassist for your band, then you're on your own.

3.4 What happened to the fake credit card number you guys provided during beta?
We've recently started transitioning out of beta and adding content to the Entertainment section on DrumChannel.com! These events can now be purchased for real!

Because of this, we are no longer accepting the fake credit card information that was provided when you signed up for beta. So before purchasing any of these new events, valid credit card information will now be required.

We’re keeping most of the site completely free, so you can keep enjoying features like groups, boards, daily news articles, select entertainment events (including interviews and the first episode of shows), YourChannel, and your profile for the low, low price of absolutely nothing at all.

3.5 Events/shows/classes cost money? Lame.
We’re sorry you feel that way. In order to fairly compensate all the artists we work with, cover costs for filming and editing the shows, continue building the site and to simply run the business, it’s necessary for us charge for some shows and events. We are working very hard to keep the pricing reasonable while maintaining our high standards in order to provide our users with quality products. Please keep in mind, that you still get most areas of the site for free, including general membership and the community side of the site – including groups, boards, daily news articles, select entertainment events, YourChannel, and your profile – all for free.

4. Blog Info

4.1 How do I update/edit/delete my blog?
You can update your journal entry by clicking on the "MY DC" button at the upper right, and clicking the "Blog" category. Click on the words "Post New Blog" and type away! Click "add blog" when you''re all done. Keep in mind that your blog is viewable by any visitor of drumchannel.com, registered or anonymous. You currently cannot edit or delete a blog entry.

4.2 How do I add a link or an image to my blog entry?
Type some text, highlight it, click the "Link" button (which looks like two little chain links) and enter the URL of what you're linking to.

To embed an image in your journal entry, find the address of the image you want, click on the Insert Image box (to the left of the smiley) and insert the image URL in the field. Click Insert and watch your image magically appear in you blog. Your image must be viewable on the web somewhere. You cannot add images directly from your hard drive. If you need a place to host the image you want to display, upload it to one of your photo albums. To find the address of an image: On Mac Option click the image and select "view image in new window". Highlight the address in the address bar and cut and paste it. On PC Right click on the image and select "properties". The image location or address will be listed in the box that pops up. You can cut and paste this address.

5. Profile Questions

5.1 What is a Prospace account? Can I have one?
Prospace accounts are reserved for bona fide professional musicians. (If you think you qualify, please submit the application and we will get back to you.) However, every user can check out Pro pages, send messages to Pros, and watch any audio or video they choose to upload. Propace pages function just like Userspace pages, except Pros can modify the color scheme and layout of their page.

5.2 How do I change my password, email address, or profile information?
Click on MY DC in the toolbox in the top right-hand corner of any DC page. This takes you to your Private Profile. From here, click on "settings." This is your Personal Information page where you can modify your general and billing settings. On the General Settings page you can edit your email address, passwords, and other site options.
To change all the information on your profile page, click on Profile. From this screen you can make changes to all areas of your Profile. But there is a trick – you must save the changes in EACH MODULE before making changes in another. For instance, if you make changes in the Personal module, you need to click the Save Changes button in that module before making changes in the Speak Your Mind module.

5.3 Can I change which parts of my profile other users can see?
Absolutely. From your Private Profile page, click on "settings" on the right-hand side of the page. Under the heading Main Profile Page you can select which modules you want other users to see and which you''d like to hide.

5.4 I can''t upload any profile pics. Am I doing something wrong?
Is your image a .jpg, .jpeg, or .gif? Well, it needs to be. Ideally, the image resolution should be 72 dpi and the size should be 200 pixels by 133 pixels; otherwise we will stretch or smoosh it to fit. And please restrict the file size to less than 2 megabytes.

5.5 I'm 12 and I really want to purchase a masterclass or concert.
If you are under 18, your parents must sign you up to use Drum Channel or log into your account and enter their credit card information. They have the option of putting a Parental Control password on the account which will limit access to certain content and purchasing abilities.

5.6 The First Amendment protects free speech, right? So I can write whatever I want all over DC?
Wrong. No swearing, no hating, no vulgarity. See our Community Guidelines
for more info.

5.7 But I can post whatever kind of pictures I want, right?
Wrong again. Post only pictures you have the rights to. Once again, no hating or vulgarity. And no pictures of swear words either. We absolutely will not tolerate pictures or words that spread racism, sexism, ageism, hate or any other nasty plagues. You can post pictures of other people, but please ask them first if it's ok and remove the picture if they change their mind. Other than that, as long as your picture complies with basic human decency and it is a .jpg, .jpeg, or .bmp, and smaller than 2 megabytes, feel free to post it in your profile.

5.8 Ok, my pictures are nice and in the right format. What do I do now?
While in your Private Profile, click on "photos." Photos are uploaded in albums to help keep them organized. You will need to name your album, upload a cover image for the album, categorize the album, and decide how to share your photos. Then add photos, arrange them in the album, and provide captions.

5.9 I don't see my new pictures!
Try refreshing your browser. If that doesn't work, clear your cache and refresh the page again. Sometimes it takes a few minutes for content to show up on the site.

5.10 How do I post a picture in a comment or on a board?
You need to provide a URL for the picture. If the picture isn't posted elsewhere (Flickr, etc. ), you can upload it to an album in your DC profile, and use that link to post the image in a comment or on a board.

5.11 Can I link to the picture in my DC albums on other sites?
Yes, under one condition. When you create the album, you must select "Share with everyone, put in YourChannel." Otherwise, users must be logged in to DC to view the photos. Then navigate to your album in the YourChannel section and send them that URL

5.12 How do I delete or edit my photos?
You'll need to open the album in your Private Profile, and then use the Edit Album functions on the right-hand side of the page. You can rename the album, re-categorize it, change the privacy settings, edit and delete the photos and their captions, and add photos to the album.

5.13 Testimonial - what's that?
A testimonial is like writing in someone's yearbook. You can praise your friends or aggrieve your enemies. But watch out - they can delete your testimonial or bitingly respond.

5.14 How do I delete that scathing testimonial?
There should be an image of a trashcan next to the testimonial in your Private Profile. Click it.

5.15 Can I change my username?
Sorry, but you're stuck with it. You can change your nickname in your profile though.

5.16 I want to use special characters to draw hearts and smileys in my username!
Sorry, but usernames are limited to 10 alpha-numeric characters, spaces, and underscores. We're so boring, we know.

5.17 What are Faves? How do I add Faves?
Faves are the bookmark function of Drum Channel. While on the page that you would like to add to your favorites, click the heart with the word FAVE next to it. To view them, go to My DC and click the Faves category. You can fave other users by clicking "Add to Favorites" on their profile page.

6. Groups Questions

6.1 I joined a group but I can't post to it.
Most likely, you joined a private group. If you're still not in the group in a couple days, go ahead and send the group owner a message to give them a heads up.

6.2 I want my own group. How can I get it?
You can apply for a group to be created on the groups page. Fill in all the pertinent information, we'll look it over and decide. Be patient, we'll let you know either way.

6.3 How do I leave a group?
In the header of the group there is a link that says LEAVE GROUP. Click it.

6.4 Our group owner is missing? What can we do?
If your group needs a new owner, what you should do is vote on who you want (or have the old owner appoint someone) and then have the old owner send an email to groups@drumchannel.com the name of the group and the name of the new owner. We will change the group ownership for you. If the old owner is unavailable, just have a vote for the new owner in your group and have the elected owner let us know.

6.5 Why both groups and boards?
Think of the boards as a giant party in your living room. Groups are a party where you invite just a few people, but still have a blast.

7. News

7.1 What kind of news can I submit?
We have six news categories: music industry, concerts and shows, visual entertainment, celeb, tech life and news. Your submission should fit into one of those categories. Read what we already have up to get an idea of what we''re looking for.

7.2 How should I format my news submission?
With the exception of interviews and tour schedules, please ensure that your submission is no longer than around 750 words. Even though we edit all submitted content, we really dig well-written pieces that come to us pre-screened. A quick check for spelling errors, sentence structure, and punctuation will go a long way towards turning us into fans of your writing. Editorials and commentaries aside, we are generally looking to feature current news items on Drum Channel We don't exclusively accept music-related content, but special preference is usually given to news with a musical slant. We encourage you to check out the news categories to see where your submission will fit in. You can also look at the number of comments left on each article to determine which topics are most popular amongst our community. Please do not reproduce articles from other sources. Your submission should be as original as you are. Naturally, offensive/inflammatory language will not be tolerated. Regardless of the point you are trying to make, please be kind, clean, and considerate. By clicking submit, you are agreeing to pass ownership of the written work over to Drum Channel to do with as we see fit, even if your submission never actually appears on the site. But don't despair - we are big believers in giving credit where credit is due.

7.3 Can I submit an article someone else wrote?
No, please only submit work you wrote.

7.4 Who owns the article after I submit it?
By clicking submit, you are agreeing to pass ownership of the written work over to Drum Channel to do with as we see fit, even if your submission never actually appears on the site. But don't despair - we are big believers in giving credit where credit is due.

8. Account Questions

8.1

9. Chat Questions

9.1 How do I get to chat?
Click the image of a person with a chat bubble by their head. This is in the top right corner, above the row of orange circle buttons.

9.2 How do I chat with someone privately?
In the dropdown menu, select the persons name you wish to speak to privately and check the "whisper" button. Anything you type will only be visible to them.

10. Friends Questions

10.1 How do I add a friend to my friends list?
While on the page of the member you''d like to add, click ADD TO FRIENDS. Now you simply wait for them to either approve or deny your request!

10.2 How do I remove a name from my friends list?
Well, you don't. Friendship is thicker than delete buttons...

10.3 I'm new, why don't I have any friends?
You answered your own question: You're new. Join some groups, pop into chat, write a blog, simply be active and I assure you, the friends will follow.

10.4 Will [insert totally rad drummer here] be my friend?!
Maybe. Keep in mind that our Prospace users are here for a lot of the same reasons you are. It's possible you might have something in common with them. But if they don't approve your request, don't take it personally. You can always add them to your faves.

10.5 I have enough friends. How can I stop people from requesting my friendship?
Go to My DC, click on settings. In the left most column, you'll see a setting to auto decline friend requests. Check it and click Confirm.

11. Boards

11.1 How do I post a topic in the boards?
First, find the board category that best describes the topic you want to post. Found it? Click it.

11.2 My Topic was closed or deleted, what can I do about it?
If this happens, then you can be 99.9% sure that there was something offensive within. It's gone, it won't come back. Please don't repost it, we'll just have to delete it again.

11.3 Who are Clairific, Manda Lea, sophiamuse and detayl?
We are Drum Channel employees and moderators of the site. We make things happen or stop things from happening. If you have any problems, we will be the ones who come to your rescue.

11.4 Can I be a moderator too?
Maybe. Stick around for a bit. DC Moderator is an invite only position.

12. Store Questions

12.1 Can I order multiples of the same DC T Shirt, but in different colors?
Of course! To do this, you'll have to order the quantity you want of each color individually. So, if you want 2 black and 2 grey, you'll have to first add the the 2 black ones to your cart, then add the 2 grey.

12.2 After I purchase an item, how do I return to watch it later?
You can access any event that you purchase through your Private Profile (access your Private Profile by clicking the MY DC button in the tool box on any page). Then select My Entertainment and you can access any of your entertainment events from here. If you have a ton of entertainment, you can filter them by Concert, Drum Jams, Shows, etc. from this page as well.

12.3 I live outside of the United States, why can't I purchase shows/events/classes/items from the store?
Unfortunately at this time, we are only able to accept payment from United States billing addresses. We’re working hard to be able to accept international payments as soon as possible and will let you know when we can. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and hope you stick around to enjoy the rest of what drumchannel.com has to offer.

12.4 What about using PayPal?
While we’re looking into the possibility of using alternate payment methods in the future, our system is currently only able to accept (US) credit card transactions. We’ll let site users know when this changes.
